Gento Healthcare is conceived as a forward-looking vertical medical facility designed to meet the growing healthcare demands of Buea’s expanding urban population. Situated on a compact city plot, the project responds to land constraints through a smart vertical strategy that maximizes medical functionality while maintaining architectural clarity and civic presence.
The design moves beyond the conventional “box hospital” typology. Instead, it introduces a refined, contemporary medical tower that projects trust, precision, and accessibility. The building establishes a strong urban identity through its sculpted cylindrical glazed spine, vertical pharmacy beacon, and layered façade articulation.
More than a hospital, Gento Healthcare represents a scalable model for secondary African cities—efficient, climate-responsive, and operationally optimized.

The architectural language balances transparency, rhythm, and environmental control.
A defining feature is the cylindrical vertical glass element, which softens the massing while reinforcing vertical continuity. This gesture creates a memorable urban landmark and enhances natural daylight penetration into circulation spaces.
The façade integrates perforated shading screens and slab projections to reduce solar heat gain and glare—critical within Buea’s humid tropical climate. Layered façade treatments allow controlled daylight while improving energy performance and occupant comfort.
The pharmacy’s illuminated vertical core acts as a functional signage element and civic marker, ensuring visibility from a distance and strengthening the project’s identity within the cityscape.
Materiality is intentionally restrained:
High-performance glazing
Durable composite cladding
Textured shading panels
Deep overhangs for weather protection
The rooftop level introduces a terrace and canopy structure that can accommodate executive consultation lounges, recovery gardens, or wellness functions—expanding the building’s programmatic flexibility and long-term value.

Gento Healthcare is organized to ensure efficient patient flow and operational clarity:
Ground floor: Public reception, emergency access, pharmacy interface
Upper floors: Specialized consultation suites, diagnostic services, inpatient wards
Vertical circulation spine: Clear separation of public and medical movement
Dedicated ambulance drop-off zone for rapid response
The compact footprint maximizes vertical efficiency while preserving site maneuverability for emergency vehicles and service access.
As a prototype, this project demonstrates how urban medical facilities in emerging cities can be:
Land-efficient
Climate-responsive
Economically scalable
Architecturally distinguished
Gento Healthcare is not only a building—it is a strategic response to the evolving healthcare infrastructure of Central Africa.
